Towns still discussing police service

Representatives of Sharpsville and Hermitage are still talking about having Hermitage provide police coverage in Sharpsville, but borough officials do not appear ready to make a decision.

City Manager Gary P. Hinkson told Hermitage commissioners Thursday that town leaders met Wednesday to discuss Hermitage's three-year proposal.

Hinkson said Sharpsville asked that a five-year proposal also be prepared so Sharpsville could compare the two, but he wasn't sure he could do that.

"The longer we look at an agreement, the harder it is to get a handle on what costs may be," Hinkson said.

Hinkson said that while the sides have not started fashioning a formal agreement, they agreed the solicitors of each community should get together and look at developing the "structure" for one, he said.
