host of events

Senior Celebration 2003 is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in Shenango Valley Mall, Hermitage.

More than 70 organizations and businesses will be represented.

The program is presented by Mercer County Area Agency on Aging and PrimeTime Health Program; Community Counseling Center; Keystone Blind Association; Life Care Cancer Center; Primary Health Network; Sharon Regional Health System; UPMC Horizon; United Community Hospital; WPIC 790-AM; and Senior Community Centers of Greenville, Grove City, Sandy Lake and the Shenango Valley.

Taking part will be health care providers; medical equipment services; legal and financial advisers; human services agencies; long-term care and assisted-living facilities; volunteer opportunities; public interest groups; employment and training services; retirement communities; travel and leisure; industry; local, state and federal government and insurance industry representatives.

Free entertainment, senior center crafts, giveaways and door prizes will be included.

Blood pressure checks; general hearing testing and scan; heart health risk assessment; weight and body mass index; and balance, glaucoma screenings will be available.

The Agency on Aging will give information on services including long-term care options, Medicare waiver program; protective, in-home and senior center services; family caregiver support; and services provided by Pennsylvania State Lottery, including PACE and tax or rent rebate.

Farmers Market Nutrition Program checks will be given to those who have proof of age and residency and who have not received the checks this year. Limit is $20 for an individual or $40 for a couple.

Senior Community Centers of Greenville, Grove City, Sandy Lake and the Shenango Valley will provide information on their services. WPIC will give a "Senior Citizen Update" from 9 to 10 a.m.

Those attending will be able to search for unclaimed property, with assistance from Pennsylvania State Treasury Department's Bureau of Unclaimed Property.

Anderson Coach and Travel, Greenville, and Premier Tour and Travel will give information. Valley Piano and Organ, Hermitage, will give music demonstrations.
