Tip line yielded
little info, DA says

A hot line created to field calls concerning possible crimes that led to Greenville's financial woes has been closed, District Attorney James P. Epstein said.

"But we're being flexible with that," Epstein said. "If someone were to call today with information, we won't say, 'No, we won't talk to you.' "

Residents had a month to call the tip line; it was set up Aug. 20 and ended Saturday.

"We've received very few calls," Epstein said. Tips were followed up, he said, and representatives from the county crime enforcement offices held several meetings with people in Greenville to discuss the calls.

Epstein said he didn't anticipate criminal charges being filed very quickly.

The borough of Greenville faces more than $1 million in debt, caused by fiscal mismanagement. Epstein said when the tip line opened that although a similar investigation by the state police turned up no evidence of wrongdoing, it was important for borougn residents to feel a sense of closure.
