New student attendance policy in the works

Students in the West Middlesex Area School District are going to have to attend class if they expect to get credit for it and they may need a doctor's excuse if they miss too much school.

Currently the district does not have an attendance policy but high school Principal Larry Ellison and dean of students Georgiana Luce, asked school directors Monday to consider reinstating one.

In a letter to the board Ellison and Mrs. Luce wrote, "Our attendance dropped off considerably last year and, with our efforts to improve our state assessment scores, it is imperative that we improve our attendance."
