deal to Local 1660 Herald Business Editor
Wheatland Tube Co. and striking United Steelworkers Local 1660 reached a tentative agreement Wednesday on a new labor contract. Terms weren't released. William Kerins, vice president of Wheatland Tube, said it was a three-year contract. Dominic Vadala, a member of the union's bargaining committee, said the committee is recommending the contract to the USW members. "They (the company) made an improvement," Vadala said. He would only say the improvement was in the health care package. Kerins added the company could live with the terms in the agreement. Union leaders set a ratification vote for 8 a.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Fatima Hall in Farrell. Representing 470 production and maintenance workers at Wheatland Tube's Wheatland pipe and tube plant, Local 1660 struck the company when its previous contract expired on April 28. |
