Charges held for court in assault, standoff case

When Donna J. Brown, 51, of Volant turned up the volume on the radio in her sport utility vehicle on Sept. 9, she just wanted to hear the music better.

Instead, she got an earful from her husband Frederick R. Brown, 60, of 284 Freemore Lane, who threatened her life, she told District Justice Jim Reed in Lawrence County's Central District Court on Thursday.

"I tried to turn it up a little bit and he became angry at me," said Mrs. Brown, who has been married to Brown for a couple of years. "He did a U-turn (in the driveway), told me he was tired of my stuff, said he wanted me to get my stuff and get out."

That 2 p.m. incident ended at about 10 p.m. when Brown surrendered to police after holding them at bay for nearly eight hours, police said at the time.

Brown was charged by state police with aggravated and simple assault, making terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.

At Thursday's preliminary hearing, Mrs. Brown described for Reed how she tried to get her "stuff" out of their home, but Brown followed her inside and told her just "to get out."
