"Faith Cafe," an informal worship service, is being offered at 6 p.m. Saturdays in the small dining room of First United Methodist Church, 237 W. Silver St. Dress for the coffee-house-style service is casual and seating is at round tables lit by candlelight. A coffee and tea "bar" featuring flavored coffees, an assortment of teas and sometimes a snack is available throughout the service. A five-minute break gives those attending an opportunity to exchange greetings and fill their coffee cups. Liturgy for the service is simple. Songs are accompanied by guitar and are displayed on a large computer-generated screen along with other worship information. "I came out of the era of coffee houses, and this just seemed like a wonderful format for informal worship," said Dr. Jeffrey Sterling, the church's pastor. |
