pleads guilty to retail theft By Sherris Moreira-Byers Herald Staff Writer
A Mercer man who was charged in a burglary spree that occurred in June in the Mercer area pleaded guilty to charges of retail theft and escape filed by Hempfield Township police in December. Nikolaus A. Beers, 23, formerly of 325 Home St., Mercer, pleaded guilty Tuesday to both charges stemming from an incident at a Williamson Road business in December. Beers took electronics including audio speakers and a digital camera, all valued at $256, according to police. While being fingerprinted, Beers bolted out a side door and was caught in Greenville with the help of Greenville-West Salem police. He was sentenced to 6 months to 1 year on the escape charge and 5 months to 1 year on the retail theft charge, plus costs, in Mercer County Common Pleas Court. Beers is scheduled for trial in October on burglary charges stemming from the Mercer burglary spree. |
