By Jeff Greenburg Herald Staff Writer There are Penn State fans. Then there are Capt. Christian and Lesi Lyons. Mrs. Lyons gave birth to a son Sept. 7 with a name that would make legendary football coach Joe Paterno or any fan of the Nittany Lions take notice. That's because the couple named their bouncing bundle of joy Andrew Nittany Lyons. Capt. and Mrs. Lyons were 1992 graduates of Laurel and West Middlesex high schools, respectively. But despite the fact they grew up separated only by Wilmington Township, they didn't meet until both were stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. They live in Apollo Beach, Fla., where Capt. Lyons is stationed at MacDill Air Force Base. Local grandparents are Lawrence and Ingrid Wozniak, Lackawannock Township, and William and Portia Lyons, Hickory Township, Lawrence County. Andrew -- who checked in at 6 pounds, 5 ounces and 19.5 inches -- has a 4-year-old sister, Riley Nicole. "When we were first dating, Christian was always teasing he wanted to name his son Nittany Lyons, and using Nittany as a first name not a middle name," Mrs. Lyons said. "And even before we found out it was going to be a boy he thought Nittany would be a great girl's name." |
