Big arts & crafts show in area

Pittsburgh is moving north for the weekend via the Pittsburgh North Arts & Crafts Christmas Spectacular at Lawrence County Fairgrounds on state Route 108.

Normally held only in the Pittsburgh area, the event was scheduled in Lawrence County, too, because of the interest that people in this region have in arts and crafts, according to Debbie Stoner, event promoter along with her husband Dave, from Irwin Township.

"All of our shows are in different areas but it seems like a lot of people from that area do like arts and crafts," she said, adding that the fairgrounds were very accessible to people from the local counties as well as Butler, Zelienople, the North Hills and those living along the Interstate 79 corridor. "Bringing a new show into the area will utilize a lot of the restaurants, and hotels for customers and crafters that will be attending the event."

She said they expect more than 12,000 people Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Frank and Sandy Lord of Mercer, owners of The Gallery on North Pitt Street, will be vending their artistic wares at the craft event. The initial purpose of their business was to market Sandy's watercolor artwork and calligraphy wall-hangings as well as Frank's scenic photographs. Now they are known for their 99-cents cards, gift bags and gift wrap, as well as candles, gift collectibles such as Willow Creek, quilting fabric supplies, and seasonal items.
