The Sons of Italy #875 Shenango Valley Chapter has announced this year's recipient of the Distinguished Italian-American Award is Dominick A. Russo.

The Sharon resident will be honored Oct. 19 at the annual Columbus Day Breakfast at Tiffany's Banquet Center, Brookfield.

Russo is a lifelong resident of the Shenango Valley and a retired educator. He spent 38 years as a secondary education science teacher.

In addition to being a 16-year member of the Sharon City School Board, where he is vice president, Russo is also vice president of the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV in Grove City, which is the educational board that represents 27 school districts in Mercer, Lawrence and Butler counties.
