A battle of brain power will be showcased on local television over the next school year as local high school students get ready to compete in Youngstown State University's Academic Challenge.

Several area high school students are taking part in the Academic Challenge this year; the grand prize in the tournament will be a $5,000 scholarship to YSU.

Teams from Brookfield, Badger, Greenville, Hickory, Kennedy Catholic, Reynolds and Sharon high schools will compete. In all, four-person teams from 36 Ohio and Pennsylvania schools will take part.

The tournament, which is set up like a quiz show, will be televised on WYTV Newschannel 33 each Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The first broadcast of the competition will be shown Saturday, when Mohawk High School takes on Campbell Memorial High School.
