in pampered pet line By Michael Roknick Herald Business Editor
As she arches her long, slinky back in pleasure, Rod Loomis continues to massage shampoo into her hair. With the glistening foam gently rolling down Ginger's body, the shampoo's heady tea-tree aroma fills the room. She pants for more. Using his thick masculine forearms, Loomis builds up a rich lather. As their eyes meet, he whispers sweet nothings into her ear. This might be a sexy scene unfit for a family newspaper, except that Ginger is a dog. And that's no comment on her face or figure. Belonging to Loomis' son, the 5-year-old dachshund has been suds upped often with the shampoo. Loomis co-owns John Paul Pet LLC with John Paul DeJoria, who created the shampoo and other designer products for cats and dogs. As co-founder of Paul Mitchell hair salon fame, this is a different and separate company for DeJoria. It was Loomis, owner of Reynolds--based Loomco International, who came up with the idea for pet products. While Loomco, a design manufacturer and importer of consumer and seasonal merchandise, had always been in the pet business with toys and other items, Loomis was searching for a national brand that would have name recognition. |
