Firefighters visiting homes
to solicit funds for new truck

Transfer volunteer firefighters are beginning to solicit door to door for funds needed to pay for a new fire engine that hasn't been ordered yet.

Preparations began earlier this year for specifications for a new pumper truck to serve Pymatuning and Delaware townships and to replace a 28-year-old model. Over the next two weeks, firefighters will contact all area homes for $25 donations.

Fire department members will have identification or a letter signed by Fire Chief Phil Steele. Those who donate will be given a complimentary certificate for an 8-by-10-inch family portrait to be taken Oct. 22 and 23 in the Delmar Drive fire station. Colorcraft Photography will contact residents by phone to schedule times for photos.

Delivery of the new truck is planned for around June. It's expected to cost about $300,000.

For information or to make a donation and receive a complimentary certificate: 724-646-2659 at the fire station; or 724-646-2569 for Steele.
