Water board, Hempfield may lock horns

Greenville Municipal Authority could be locking horns with Hempfield Township over a proposed water system improvement project in the township.

The water board wants to proceed with a $600,000 improvement project on Fredonia Road. The improvements include laying down a new, larger water line in the area and extending service to a proposed residential development.

"We want to proceed with this project," said board treasurer Jan Hurlbert. "And this is the only thing that has been holding us up."

The water board is asking for a meeting with township trustees to discuss what would be going on during the project and to ask for money to help complete the project.

Board President Dick Miller said both he and the water superintendent had written letters to the township trustees, and the superintendent had made many non-returned phone calls to the board.

"And then we read in a paper that the board decided to refer the letter to their municipal authority," Miller said. "That's a great way to pass the buck ... They need to be involved in this project."
