Fall foliage tour offers 4 stops

Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District will host its Trumbull County Fall Foliage Tour from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday on the south branch of big Yankee Creek.

The following stops are planned along the "drive-it-yourself" path:

» Hartford Orchards -- State Route 305 at Hartford Center. Originally run by Walter "Pat" Allen, and Walter, C.E. and Ernie Eucker, it is now run by Ernie's son Brian. The season opens in July with Lodi apples and runs through April. "Pick Your Own Apples" is the big attraction each fall.

» Alcraft Egg Artistry -- 1370 Custer Orangeville Road. Established in 1971, it is the only store in the eastern United States dedicated to decorating Faberge style eggs. Customers can purchase eggs or have one custom designed.

» Homecite Farms -- Loganway Road, Liberty Township. Now sits where Brauninger Farm, Idle Aces stood for several decades. Recently purchased by Andrew and Paula Capestro, it is home to more than 50 thoroughbred race horses, yearlings and brood mares.

» Colonial Gardens -- 1419 Youngstown Kingsville Road, state Route 193 (Belmont Avenue). It was opened in 1983 by Neal Barkett and was sold in 2001 to Tom Grober, who operates the full-service garden center and landscaping business. The 7è-acre center offers trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials and water plants.
