Bishop conducts blessings for church garden, windows

Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of the Youngstown Catholic Diocese conducted blessing ceremonies Sunday at St. Bernadette Church, 7800 Locust St.

Blessings were done for Mary's Garden, a project undertaken by a youth class, and newly installed stained glass windows, a project by the parish council.

Mary's Garden was created and funded by the sixth grade religion class and their teacher, Lisa Palumbo. Becki Messersmith and her family did the landscaping, while class children held fund-raisers, including a spaghetti dinner, bake sales and the sale of memorial bricks, to finance the undertaking. Other helpers included religious education coordinator Del Zarella, Marilyn Kozelski and Don Micaletti.

The stained glass windows were installed in the church addition. The windows reflect various ministries of the church, Jesus and the children and the church's patroness saint, St. Bernadette.
