What do you get when you combine 44 Mercer County kids, some Pittsburgh Steelers and a shopping trip? A lot of fun, a little chaos and a really good cause. The kids spent Wednesday evening at Kaufmann's in Pittsburgh. The event was made possible through the Salvation Army in Sharon and Project Bundle Up, a program that provides winter clothing for children. After a pizza party, the children were paired with members of the Steelers who took them shopping for new winter clothes, including coats, hats and gloves. Players including Hines Ward, Joey Porter, Dewayne Washington, Plaxico Burress, James Farrior and Tommy Maddox helped their pint-sized partners try on clothing while they stopped to help tie shoes and talk to the kids. "I need some shoes, dog," Cordell Sewell Jr. of Farrell Elementary shouted up at Porter. Austin Zawodnick, a fifth- grader at Reynolds, was excited to meet the Steelers, eat and shop. |
