surgery inadequate By Amanda Smith-Teutsch Herald Staff Writer
A Sharpsville woman has laid her claim against a local doctor before a Mercer County jury. Hayley M. Roman broke two bones and tore ligaments in her ankle in January 1999. She was treated by orthopedist Dr. John Steele, whose practice is based in Greenville. According to opening arguments presented Tuesday by Ms. Roman's attorney, Jay H. Feldstein, Steele placed a pin or screw in the woman's ankle. She underwent three surgeries and months of physical therapy. Ms. Roman's suit alleges Steele's treatment did not meet medical standards and because of it, she has severe arthritis in her ankle. She claims she must have her ankle fused or have ankle-replacement surgery every 10 years. |
