Brookfield trustees are preparing to welcome the township's newest addition, which they have dubbed the Center Lighting District.

Trustees and Fire Chief Keith Barrett held a public meeting Tuesday to inform residents about the new district, which makes number seven.

The district will comprise Obermiyer Road, Sunset Drive, Wood and Seaburn streets and Grove Street, from state Route 7 to Seaburn.

Residents representing 139 properties -- a majority of property owners in the district -- petitioned for lights, trustees said. Only nine letters came from residents who didn't want to be included in the district, Barrett said.

"The majority of people in the area want the lighting district for safety, especially elderly people," Trustee Gary Lees said.
