Council seeking restitution from parents of teen vandals

Greenville council wants the parents of three teenagers who broke into the concession stand at the Greenville sports complex on Aug. 25 to answer for their children.

Three boys used crowbars to break into the concession stand at the sports complex in West Salem Township, police said, adding they stole candy bars and soda pop. The boys then went into a bathroom at the sports complex and drank and ate the items they stole.

"They used a crowbar and not only damaged the door, but they also bent the door frame. The concession stand is a cinder-block building, and it was really hard to repair," council Vice President David Henderson said Tuesday night.

Borough Manager Vance Oakes said, in all the kids caused more than $3,700 in damage. The borough's insurance company covered most of it, Oakes said, but the borough still had to pay about $1,700.

Oakes said the parents of the boys were fined $100, but that didn't cover all of the cost of the borough's repairs.
