Police will get
2.1 pct. pay hike

Members of the Greenville-West Salem Township police force will be getting a raise soon.

The police union and Greenville council settled on a 2.1 percent cost-of-living increase in a wage-reopener agreement.

Council President Pete Longiotti said all of the borough government's collective bargaining units had the right under their last contracts to negotiate wage reopeners, if the borough could afford it.

During some of Greenville's darkest financial times, none of the borough employees got raises, Longiotti said.

Police got a 3 percent raise this year. Longiotti said nothing else in the contracts had been reopened, and the police union accepted the offer.
