Man suspected in car break-ins arrested

A Farrell man who police said was responsible for a rash of vehicle break-ins in Farrell and Wheatland over the last couple of weeks was arrested Monday.

Southwest Mercer County Regional police said they investigated a suspicious person looking in cars in the 200 block of Shenango Boulevard in Farrell early Monday.

Wayne Alan Stratter, 19, of 717 Emerson Ave., was spotted at 1:20 a.m. in the 300 block of Shenango carrying a red bookbag with a brick in it, police said. Witnesses told police they saw Stratter walking around houses and using a flashlight.

Stratter admitted to police that he and another man were responsible for breaking into cars in Farrell, Wheatland, Hermitage and Sharon, police said.

Stratter was charged with theft, receiving stolen property and loitering and prowling at night.

As part of the investigation, Leon Baldwin Jr., 18, of 800 Beechwood Ave., Farrell, was arrested at 10:52 a.m. Monday at his home on an existing warrant for failure to make payments, police said.
