School leaders working to resolve schedules

By Kristen Garrett

Students in Sharon City School District could get to take more of the classes they want sometime in the not too distant future.

High school Principal Pat Hepinger told directors Wednesday that the combination of block and single-period scheduling is making it impossible to fit in all course requests from students.

A block schedule is when a student takes a class for two periods in a row each day for one semester.

Seven out of 10 students aren't getting the courses they want to take, Hepinger said.

Classes are offered at limited times. "There are too many time segments, and they're not going to piece together," Hepinger said.

Sometimes students end up with as many as three study halls a day because there is nothing else that can fill single-period classes, especially for the seniors.
