in hit-skip fatality

A pretrial hearing for a man charged in the death of a Hubbard teen in April has been continued to Oct. 29.

Lawyers for William Demidovich of Stonybrook Drive, Hubbard Township, asked for a continuance from Judge Wyatt McKay. Attorney David Toepfer, an assistant Trumbull County prosecutor, said he didn't know the grounds for the continuance.

In August, Demidovich pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and hit-skip in the death of 14-year-old Kyrsten Studer.

Highway patrol troopers have said that on the evening of April 4, Demidovich was behind the wheel of a car that smashed into Studer and a group of friends as the girls were walking near state Route 304.

Studer, of Grandview Avenue, was killed, while several of her injured friends were treated at local hospitals.

A court spokeswoman said Demidovich's jury trial is scheduled to begin Feb. 23.
