needs consent of all 4 towns By Kristen Garrett Herald Staff Writer
Sharon council wants to make sure all four communities are in agreement when it comes to renaming state Route 60 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Councilman Raymond Fabian said Thursday he thinks renaming the stretch of road -- known as Dock Street in Sharon, Broadway in Farrell and Broadway Avenue in Wheatland and Hermitage -- is a great idea that's long overdue. Council President Fred Hoffman said all four communities should meet to make sure the entire stretch of road will be renamed. Hoffman said he does have concern because council wouldn't approve renaming a short street in the city after a former resident who was killed in the Sept. 11 attacks. Residents complained about the cost and hassle involved in changing their addresses. Councilwoman Chris Outrakis said that in the past Dock Street wasn't renamed because it was going to cost the businesses a lot of money to change things like stationery. "It's (renaming the street) no help to our people down there. We have to take care of our people first," she said. |
