The role of women in society is constantly changing and evolving. Locally, their role is changing within the community and the United Way of Mercer County.

The United Way has formed the Women's Leadership Initiative to recognize and develop the role of women in the agency.

Caren Renz, chairwoman of the Women's Leadership Initiative steering committee, said people don't realize how many women in the past have really contributed to the community and made it what it is today.

Mrs. Renz said there is diversity among the women in the initiative, and everyone involved has generated excitement. "We've just moved forward at a nice pace and worked as a team," she said.

"It's great to have a wonderful, diverse group such as this," 2003 Campaign Chairman Rex Knisley said.
