cause $6,500 damage at park By Sherris Moreira-Byers Herald Staff Writer A park that was renovated two years ago may need another helping hand now that vandals have damaged a slide. Grove City Police Chief Dean Osborne said that at about 4 p.m. Thursday an anonymous caller said juveniles were burning holes in sliding boards in the Stewart Avenue park. Police found a hole burned in the plastic of a small slide. That slide is connected to a larger one and replacing the equipment will cost $6,500, Osborne said. Borough secretary Paris Weiland said the park was refurbished in 2001 through a state grant. Neighbors say the park is a favorite hangout for teenagers after school and after dark, despite a sign that says the park closes at dusk. "Sometimes the bigger kids, they'll be hollering and using bad language," said an elderly neighbor who didn't want to be identified. "People don't pay attention to signs. What are you going to do? You can't call the cops every time." |
