Jamestown school director Debbie Miller was incorrectly credited with voting for a new teachers' contract.

Not only did Ms. Miller not vote yes, she wasn't even at Wednesday's school board meeting. Ms. Miller, a board member since December 2002 and a candidate for re-election, said Thursday she was several hundred miles away in Illinois. And if she had been at the meeting, she would have voted no.

That no vote wouldn't have been enough, however, to change the 5-3 count that The Herald accurately reported. Her name was incorrectly inserted in place of Guy Brooks, the board's president, who was among five directors who approved the deal.

Also voting yes were Kevin Floch, Chris Kneeland, John Tucker and Doris Livingston. Opposing the contract were Paul Csonka, James Owens and Jay Snyder.

"It's not that I agree or disagree with the provisions of the contract," Ms. Miller said. "But I don't think it's fair to either side to enter into it right now."

She said the sides entered into an agreement with the Jamestown Area Education Association last November. It included a wage reopener.

The contract, which took effect on July 1 and runs through 2007-08, calls for wage increases for teachers who will also be earning step raises at the following percentages:
