Though they may have to pay a bit more, people living in Brookfield, Masury and Hubbard can now schedule pickups through the Niles Trumbull Transit System.

The system, which began operating in Niles and several other participating communities Sept. 15, extended its service on Monday. The demand-response service is now available from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. seven days a week to all Trumbull County residents.

For travel within the participating communities -- including Niles, Howland, Liberty, Vienna, Weathersfield, McDonald and Cortland -- senior residents 55 and older, disabled people and youths ages 2 to 12 pay $1.50 for each one-way ride, while others pay $3 a ride.

For travel to other areas of the county, the ride will cost $3 a trip for the elderly, disabled and youths ages 2 to 12, and $6 for the general population.

In the nonsubsidizing communities -- which include Brookfield, Hubbard and Masury -- seniors 55 and older and youths ages 2 to 12 pay $3 for travel within the participating communities, while the general public pays $6 per one-way trip for travel within the participating communities.
