Nearly 300 people attended a banquet Wednesday celebrating the 20th anniversary of Community Food Warehouse of the Shenango Valley.

"It's not about me, it's not about you, it's all about us," said Michael Wright, the Farrell- based organization's executive director said at the dinner in Radisson Hotel of Sharon, Shenango Township.

"It is because of you, people are being fed. It is because of you, their needs are being met," said James B. Winner, board president.

John McLean was honored as the warehouse's first retiree, after serving for 15 years as its manager. "Mr. John is a good man, he's an honorable man, he's a family man, he's a church man," said Wright. "He was an old school worker," The warehouse employs three people and distributes an average 780,000 pounds of food annually. More than 3,400 families receive help through 23 food pantries.

Thirty-one groups are warehouse members and more than 15 million pounds of food has been distributed since the operation began. It also distributes nonfood items, including soap, toilet paper and toothbrushes.
