A unique financial agreement reached about six months ago will benefit Woodland Place, the county-affiliated nursing home in Coolspring Township, to the tune of $2 million.

That agreement was announced publicly Wednesday during a ceremony in the nursing home's auditorium with nearly 50 people in attendance.

"We were able to essentially sell back to the state of Pennsylvania 25 nursing home bed licenses for a sum of money for a project," Woodland Place's chief operating officer, Drew Pierce, said, explaining that agreement. "... And our project here is, we're going to take those 25 nursing home beds and convert them into 15 retirement apartments within the existing structure of the building."

In addition to that, Pierce said the money will help renovate the second floor of the home, which will continue to be skilled nursing home space. When completed next summer, Woodland Place will drop from 125 to 100 beds. The apartments will be converted into one semi-private and one private room with baths from existing four-bed wards.
