Sadie, the starved Rottweiler seized by authorities last week, is gaining weight, eating solid food and even running a little bit.

"She's walking, she's energetic -- she's doing great," said Dr. Craig Kryger, associate at Baker Pet Hospital in Clark.

Sadie, 3, was found Oct. 22 at the home of Linda Phillips, 38, of 323 Malleable St., Sharon, emaciated and dehydrated, officials said. She was taken to the veterinary hospital, where she was hooked up to a feeding tube and given intravenous fluids. The tubes have been removed, Kryger said.

Sadie's weight has gone up 4 pounds to 53è pounds. Kryger said her ideal weight probably is in the high 80s.

"She's got a wonderful appetite," he said.

Ms. Phillips was cited by Sharon police with cruelty to animals and by Chief Dog Warden Kathy Whiteman with not having a license and failing to confine the dog while she was in heat.
