As Douglas C. Bradley sees it, the trick was finding something he loved to do. The treat that job brought was the hundreds of people who crossed his path.

So it's only appropriate, perhaps, after serving 18 years as mayor of Clark and nearly 26 years overall, including almost eight years on council, that Bradley's last day of public service to the community he loves so well falls on Halloween.

And there will likely be few tricks and plenty of treats from fellow residents and public officials from around the county today for the mayor as the clock on his tenure grinds to what is expected to be a tearful halt.

That Bradley's tenure is coming to an end more than two years before the end of his term left council almost speechless when he sprang it on them last month. But Bradley said people shouldn't look for any controversial or sinister reason for that unexpected announcement.
