Couple, business face comp charges

A Grove City couple and their Hermitage business have been charged by state officials with failing to have worker's compensation insurance three times over the last four years.

Thomas J. Mavor, 64, and Helen Mavor, 56, of 312 W. Main St., Grove City, were arrested Oct. 23 by Constable Diane Metz at the Shenango Valley Regional Lockup, Farrell, according to court documents.

Their business is Twice Loved Appliances Inc., located in the Shenango Valley Mall.

Mrs. Mavor was released on her own recognizance after their arraignment before District Justice Henry J. Russo, Farrell. Her husband was jailed briefly but has since been released after posting $5,000 bond.

An investigator for the compliance department of the state Department of Labor and Industry's Bureau of Worker's Compensation, Harrisburg, filed 349 criminal counts against each of them and their business.

L&I said the couple did not have worker's compensation insurance from Nov. 14, 2000, to Jan. 24, 2001, June 15, 2001, to March 18, 2002, and April 30, 2002, to June 30, 2002.

Each day without insurance is considered a separate offense.

A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. Nov. 21.
