Man, 21, killed after crashing SUV
into culvert

A New Castle man died Friday afternoon in Hermitage when he crashed the sport utility vehicle he was driving into a large culvert on state Route 60.

Ronald Richard White, 21, of 1005 Marshall Ave., New Castle, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:28 p.m. by Mercer County Deputy Assistant Coroner Dr. Charles Ziegler.

White was driving an SUV north on state Route 60 when he apparently lost control, veered off the right side of the roadway and went head first into a 10-foot culvert between 84 Lumber and Interstate Chemical that Hermitage police described as "large enough to swallow a truck."

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. Ziegler said the cause of death is pending investigating.

White's body was taken to UPMC Horizon, Farrell, police said.
