reported at polls By Amanda Smith-Teutsch Herald Staff Writer
While most of the voters in Mercer County were able to cast their ballots Tuesday without a hitch, some precincts experienced trouble early on Election Day. Jim Bennington, Mercer County elections chief, said most of the problems were minor. "The biggest problem we're having is that the voter turnout is much heavier than we expected," Bennington said. "Many precincts are calling me, asking for an extra voting machine, and we don't have any." Some precincts had technical trouble, he said, including ones in Hermitage and Farrell. At the Hermitage City Building, people lined up to cast their ballots, some waiting as long as 30 minutes. Election judge Alice Brant said the wait was normal for the precinct, despite the fact that for about two hours, one of the machines was unusable. |
