Lapikas defeats Brenneman

Democrat David Lapikas knocked off two-term Mercer County Commissioner Cloyd E. "Gene" Brenneman for South Pymatuning Township supervisor, 424 to 232 with 98 percent of the votes in.

Brenneman, 69, of 4180 Thomason Road, an 11-year resident of the township, was the Republican candidate in the battle for one spot on the three-person board.

Lapikas, 35, of 2599 Shadow Drive, is a manager of the Brookfield branch of First National Bank.

He has previous public experience, having served on Sharpsville council from 1999-2001 before resigning when he moved to the township.

"It surprised even me," Lapikas said. "I really thought this would be a really tight race; he's a seasoned politician. I'm just really happy. It's a great feeling. ... I'm going to work hard and do the best job I can and am looking forward to getting to work."
