Duane J. Piccirilli isn't sure what to make of the Democratic sweep of candidates on the Hermitage Board of Commissioners. He just knows he's happy to be a part of it. Piccirilli, 48, of 169 Cohasset Drive, broke onto the board by defeating Republican Commissioner Joseph Augustine, 74, of 300 Lakewood Manor, who has served for 11 years. "Joe Augustine was a good commissioner," said Piccirilli said. "He served the city well." Longtime Commissioners Bill Scanlon, 73, of 726 Gail Drive, who served 36 years on the board, and James "Pat" White, 74, of 490 Ashland Drive, a 20-year veteran, were re-elected. Unsuccessful Republican candidates were William Finzel, 65, of 1115 S. Keel Ridge Road and Chuck Nelson, 46, of 3856 E. State St. With current commissioners Sylvia Stull and Larry Gurrera also Democrats, the party of Franklin Delano Roosevelt has a monopoly on the board. |
