Old guard makes way for pair of newcomers

Although he's an old hand at school board business, Matthew J. DeJulia said he's ready to hear the ideas of two new members of Hermitage School Board: Jane Levine Matusick and Laurie Ann Biblis.

"I'm excited to work with these people," said DeJulia, the top vote-getter in Tuesday's election. "Harmony will be a good part of my desire (for another term)."

Ms. Matusick, 56, of 4805 Scott Drive, and Ms. Biblis, 42, of 3882 Windsor Court, knocked Jim Lumpp off the board, but Lumpp said he hasn't ruled out asking to be appointed to the seat about to be vacated by Duane J. Piccirilli, whose term has two years left.

Piccirilli was elected a city commissioner and said he will resign from the school board before he's sworn in as commissioner.

DeJulia, 60, of 392 W. Park St., said he felt wonderful to be at the top of the tally sheet, after years of lagging behind Gene Martuccio, 58, of 725 Briarwood Road, who, along with Carol Rich, 54, of 290 Fairmount Drive, also was re-elected.

"He's my dog, now," DeJulia, an 18-year veteran, quipped.
