School board candidates await official vote count

While it would appear the five candidates listed on the general election ballot have won seats on Jamestown Area School Board, the candidates may want to wait a bit before celebrating their victory.

Voters appear to have chosen James L. Owens, with 867 votes; Debra A. Miller, with 861; Beverly J. Riley, with 861; James G. Routh, with 852; and Joseph S. Williams, with 838, according to unofficial results from Mercer County and very unofficial results from Crawford County.

The five were the only candidates listed on Tuesday's ballot, the result of their sweep of both the Democratic and Republican primaries in May. They campaigned on their opposition to some parts of the renovation of Jamestown Junior-Senior High School.

Their victory in the primary inspired a write-in campaign by five residents who favor the renovations and called themselves "Candidates for Kids"

The candidates pulled off a respectable showing Tuesday but unless there are hundreds of misspelled write-in votes that can be consolidated, they came up short.
