The law of physics states that what goes up must come down. That law, it seems, may also apply to the Oakland Avenue Viaduct in Sharon. D. Matthew Jameson III, the Pittsburgh attorney for Carmen Paliotta Contracting Inc. in South Park, Pa., sent a letter to Mercer County officials Thursday saying they plan to begin tearing down the viaduct on Nov. 17 if they don't get a response from the county before then. The decision comes on the heels of a letter sent by Mercer County commissioners to Paliotta Contracting setting forth an ultimatum: Submit an acceptable plan to repair the viaduct by Dec. 1 or PennDOT will complete the bridge and Paliotta will be responsible for any additional costs beyond the original $3.6 million.
