Kwik Fill at North Broad and North streets in Grove City is known for its full service. But at about 3 a.m. Thursday, an Erie man tried for drive-through service.

Grove City police found Mark E. Davison, 23, sitting in his car, which was inside the gas station.

According to police, Davison was driving west on North Street, which ends at North Broad. Instead of turning, Davison continued straight, smashing a fire hydrant and driving into the building.

Police Chief Dean Osborne said Davison was "traveling at a pretty fair speed," judging by damage to the hydrant and building. He added that Davison just missed hitting a gasoline pump.

Davison, who was treated for cuts at United Community Hospital in Pine Township, was charged with drunken driving. Osborne said Davison's blood-alcohol level tested at 0.19 percent, more than twice the new legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Borough workers replacing the hydrant said a new one costs about $600.
