A former Wheatland man charged with killing his neighbor has been returned to Florida to be prosecuted.

Charles Sarchet, 48, of Brooksville, Fla., was taken by Florida authorities Tuesday, said Mercer County First Assistant District Attorney Lorinda Hinch.

Sarchet was arrested July 31 in Hermitage by Hermitage and state police on a fugitive warrant. He refused to waive extradition proceedings, which led to a lengthy bureaucratic paper trail that culminated in an Oct. 28 hearing at which Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge Michael J. Wherry ordered Sarchet be extradited to Florida.

Sarchet was taken before a Hernando County judge Thursday and ordered held without bail, according to a spokeswoman for the State Attorney's Office in Brooksville, Fla.

Sarchet is charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a firearm and grand theft and is to be arraigned Dec. 8, she said.
