Some people's way of serving the Lord is by teaching Sunday school. Some sit in the nursery. Still others sing in the choir.

Mike Hamelly, 45, of 131 N. Hazard Road in Jackson Township, changes the oil.

Hamelly and several other volunteers from Emmanuel Christian Church at 4495 Greenville-Sandy Lake Road in New Vernon Township have made it their business to do the Lord's business by helping widows, single mothers and college students by performing preventative maintenance on their vehicles labor-free.

"What spurred it on is a verse in the New Testament, in James 1:27, which says, 'Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: To look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world,' " Hamelly said of what prompted the year-old ministry. "I guess I wanted to try not only to read and understand the Bible, but also do what it says."
