VFW hires adjuster
to help settle fire claim

Walt Renner of A.H. Neaman Co. Inc. told employees, regular and social members of Farrell's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286 on Wednesday that he wants to work on their behalf to get the best settlement possible.

VFW members voted unanimously to hire the Pittsburgh company to handle their claim for the fire that destroyed the post Sunday morning.

Renner, a public insurance adjuster, said the Post's building and personal property were underinsured, but since the declaration page of the insurance policy was missing, he wasn't sure exactly what the policy covered.

"The policy is mindboggling," Terry Kromka, post commander, said during Renner's presentation in the New Murray Bell VFW Post 7597, Farrell.

Renner said his clients are property owners -- he doesn't work for an insurance company. He assured Kromka that his company would take over immediately and handle the policy and other matters related to the claim.

"I've been in the business since 1966," Renner said. "We act on your behalf like an attorney would."

As for the building, which was built in the 1950s, Kromka said about six inches of water still covers the floor in the office area, but everything that was salvageable has been removed, including the flags and rifles.
