By Patrecka F. Adams Herald Staff Writer Miracle. It's the one word Austin Bair's family uses to describe the shiny new white 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan sitting in front of their house and the people who made it all possible. Even Austin's grandfather, Gerald McCurdy of New Castle, marveled at how the whole thing turned out. "(The van) does everything but talk to you," he said. "It's a miracle." The road leading to 7-year-old Austin's miracle started about three months ago, when Pulaski United Methodist Church began a bank account in his name and held a spaghetti dinner for his benefit. Austin, who has cerebral palsy and uses a motorized wheelchair, was in desperate need of daily transportation. Before receiving the van, the only way Austin could go was to school, since the bus has a wheelchair lift. |
