By Patrecka F. Adams Herald Staff Writer After hearing from several businesses both for and against the closing of a railroad crossing at Mill Street in Wheatland, Wheatland council has decided to keep it open. "We got negative responses from businesses," said David Cusick, council president. "We have to abide by what the majority wants." In early October, James Young, of Norfolk Southern Railroad, approached council about closing the railroad crossing at Mill Street to reduce the risk of accidents and save the company money, since it would no longer have to maintain it. Closing the crossing would have essentially made the road a dead-end at either side of the tracks. Wheatland Tube is one area business that would have been affected by the closing. |
