Blind association honors volunteers

Keystone Blind Association held its annual volunteer awards and recognition dinner Nov. 3.

Jonathan Fister, president and chief executive officer, praised the volunteers and several organizations and businesses for their support over the past year.

   » Lillian Rosenblum Award, given to a volunteer whose commitment and dedication to service exemplifies excellence and selflessness, was presented to Bea Kloss.

   » Charm Fischer Award, given a blind person whose lifestyle reflects a level of independence that sets a standard for others, was presented to Ruth Elerby.

   » Distinguished Service Award, given to a board member who has demonstrated the ability and willingness to do more than is expected, was presented to Denny Reichard.

   » Excellence in Service Award, given to a volunteer whose dedication and versatility displays selflessness and excellence, was presented to Edie and Melissa Bruckart.

   » Incredible Kid Award, given to a Keystone Kid in recognition of exemplary accomplishments and selflessness in helping others, was presented to George Casselberry.

   » Guiding Light Award, given to a parent of a Keystone Kid for demonstrating extraordinary dedication to the promotion of independence within their child, was given to Bonnie Casselberry.

   » Andrew Regule Award for Lionism is given to a District 14-F Lion who demonstrates the dedication and service to blind and visually impaired individuals, was presented to Jim McFarland.

   » Helen Keller Award for Independence is given to an organization that provides the resources to promote independence of blind and visually impaired person in our community was presented to the District 14-F, Region IV Lions.

   » Leadership in Giving Award, given to Lions clubs for philanthropic leadership in support of services for the blind and visually impaired, was presented to Greenville Lions Club.

   » Community Partnership Award, given to organizations on whose financial support the association depends to carry out its mission, was presented to Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.

   » Good Neighbor Award, given to businesses or organizations in our community whose outstanding commitment helps Keystone carry out its mission was presented to Butler County Blind Association, Grove City Senior Center, Jamestown Lions and VITA volunteers.

   » Partners in Independence Award, given to a volunteer for outstanding participation in the agency's Talking Newspaper program.

   » Partners in Prevention Award, given to an educational facility for outstanding participation in the agency's Prevention of Blindness Program, was presented to Kids of the Kingdom Preschool.

   » Guardian Angel Award, presented to volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to the agency's Prevention of Blindness program, was given to Beth Dunham and Roberta Hines.

Fister thanked all of the volunteers for their dedication and service in support of the agency's mission which is to maintain and improve the quality of life for those who are blind or visually impaired; prevent blindness; and provide employment opportunities and advocacy for those who are disabled.
