Car/buggy crash sends woman to hospital

A Lawrence County crash involving an Amish buggy and a car at 3:21 p.m. Monday destroyed the buggy and sent its driver to the hospital, according to a state police report.

The horse and buggy, operated by Ella S. Byler, 66, of 202 Spring Lane, New Wilmington, was westbound on state Route 208 in Pulaski Township when she attempted to make a left onto Cotton Road, police said, turning in front of an eastbound car driven by Richard J. Fiorini, 74, of 435 James St., New Wilmington.

Mrs. Byler was ejected upon impact and landed on the berm of the road while her buggy was demolished and the horse fled the scene, police said.

Police said Mrs. Byler was flown to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown where her condition was unknown late Monday. Fiorini wasn't injured, but his car had to be towed from the scene.
